IDEAS
My recent work started to develop in this background, when I was trying to understand the mental and psychological function of a human mind. How much memory and recollection of that memory play a role in shaping our social and psychological identity.
During this probe I began to use materials like threads, nails, photographs as well as Photostats of photographs, some of them my earlier self portraits, on painted ply board surface. ‘Eye’ a recurring motif started appearing in my work which served as a symbol for the act of perception, which in psychological term convey a neurophysiologic process which includes memory, by which an organism becomes aware of and interprets external stimuli. I consistently used my self-portraits during this phase, which I am still using in my recent work. Here I present myself both as protagonist and spectator.
At present I am constructing my memory boxes which are made of plywood. Inside these boxes I tried to develop a system of interconnected elements, in fact like a web. Photographs from my family album, old letters, pages from diaries where addresses of old friends and relatives were jotted down meticulously by my father, are contents of these boxes along with threads, electrical wires, nails and gauzes. Later I also used CT scans of brain and electrical accessories (screws inside socket and plug). The web like structure inside these boxes is essentially fragile in nature, consisting of interconnected and overlapping elements crisscrossing each other.
